Surviving the Great Depression



During the midst of The Great Depression, when jobs were scarce, the Norwalk Musicians Union refused to allow the New York Musicians Union to perform at the Theatre in the Woods. The performance was cancelled, and the jobs it would have created disappeared. As a result, many union families suffered severe economic hardships, and countless children went hungry, but that's a small price to pay to preserve the integrity of the union.
